I have to say that I think Ortiz has handled being 'bat' for pretty graciously. The RS have been in free fall since the start of the season.  Cameron could be out a week or three months depending on whether he heals or needs surgery. The fact that we have Reddick and McDonald and that Reddick did very well during ST and that McDonald doesn't shrink under pressure is a good thing. With Lowell and Varitek swinging the bat we have options....of course JD Drew needs to come through more than once every week. Right now he's the only healthy OF'er that we have but then there is Hermida on the bench...I keep thinking that Jacoby's injury is worse than we think, the kid got kicked hard right over his heart.
I think that Francona has broken the ice and that he'll more freely hit for Ortiz. If Ortiz wants to be 'the guy' he's going to have to 'walk the talk'.
