She never was a fave of mine; would love to get Fredo back. But thought you might like to read this from the Herald:

I liked Tina. So much better than Hazel Mae. I wish her good luck and us, a decent replacement.
I wanna be a Rockstar. Go Sox!

I for one will not miss those teeth. But living in the NY area it sounds like they'll be shining on some local channel.

Quote:On TV she did but in person she was far from it...I remember running into her at the Baseball Winter Meetings and she was telling people she couldn't wait for this contract to end so she could spend more time at home with her husband who is also in the broadcasting business...because they never had time together once she went to Boston. I'd expect to see her land at Fox 5 out in New York because they've had Freelance guys doing the weekend gig and Duke Castiglione has also been doing weekdays and weekends when they couldn't get a freelance guy so I'm sure he's worn down so it makes sense that she would end up going there. But honestly will not miss her at all...would love for them to bring Freedo back or even Jamie Parker. ~Chaggy

I didn't mind Tina as a personality, and I thought her set/scripted pieces were fine, but her on-the-spot interviewing skills were pretty bad. The Buchholz no-hitter stands out--she nearly managed to make him look like an idiot at the high point of his career thus far by asking questions he couldn't possibly answer at that moment--but her general questions to Tito weren't much better on a daily basis.

Quite honestly I could care less what she did when she was off air. I too liked Fredo but I have to say I thought she did a vg job, she was interesting enthusiastic, appeared to me to be conscientious. She fulfilled her contract and now she's done. And she was there for the 2007 season which will always be memorable. Good luck to her. I wish her the very best!

I've heard from some spies that she was willing to come back but NESN low-balled her. Unfortunately, NESN has a reputation for not paying talent (with a few exceptions).
I'll miss Tina. I thought she did a very good job and I know that as Chags said, she'll be happy to be closer to home. Ken |

Since I have been awol a while I did not know this about Tina...I was neutral to her ....she did have a good smile..but I would love Eric Frede back doing more with Sox....I got to know him but more than that he has a mind packed full of facts and going at full speed..I do not know how he does it but he is a good one. Take care Tina and do what you think is best for you....we only get one chance in life and gotta enjoy it. I just saw her anchoring SportsDesk last night. What did she do to her mouth? It's larger than ever and sorry but she looks like a horse!

Wth her husband staying in New York, I didn't think this would last anyway. I'm all for Katherine Tappan taking her place. She's much more personable. Or Jaime Parker.

Why can't they just dump that role. Tina added nothing to the broadcasts IMO. All I want is a guy to tell me what happens and a guy to tell me why. I don't need a sideline reporter giving useless information that I don't care about.

Derek,
I respect your view on this issue, but some of us like the human interest stories in addition to the game. Also I know that they show a lot of the interviews, etc on the pre-game that they repeat during those sideline segments, but we don't always have time to watch the pre-game, especially since game time is 4pm here (as it is where you are, I know) so it's nice to catch up on what we missed. |

It seems like this is the trend not just in baseball but you see it in football and sometimes in some markets in basketball. I think in baseball you've got 9 innings and that is a lot of down time, which makes it a strong candidate for this type of reporting.

Quote: It's fine for the game if it's done when the game isn't going on...when there is total down time...not inbetween batters because we've seen countless times when they've cut and done an interview and then presto a home run or something big is done....do it inbetween pitching changes or inbetween innings. But I can see it being done away with and it hasn't taken anything away from games.... ~Chaggy

I'd rather hear some anecdotes from the announcers than some annoying sideline reporter who looks like she might be a toy for a player (just ask Derek Lowe). Living in SF, you can hear Jon Miller tell some really funny stories during a blow-out and you still never miss a pitch or an important homer.
People like Ken Rosenthal and Peter Gammons who bring legit info affecting the game are OK because thy understand the game and know when to shut up. But, I really don't care about the players who play the game except for what they do between the lines. I also can't stand the interviews in the booth. _________________
