I was kind of hoping they would move in another direction, but oh well.

Fine by me but of course, I just like looking at him.
My empty seat at Fenway; Some might think it's sad to see. But I won't be alone at Fenway; Now he'll share the same seat with me! This year is for you Babe! Go Sox!

Yeah, I was hoping this wouldn't happen again. He just can't hit.

Well he is Wake's binkie and I am sure he is cheap enough too. We may see him until Wake retires.

It isn't a lot of money. I think the average age of free agent catchers is like 35 or 36. Unless we want Mike Piazza (God knows what he wants for $$$) Dougie is a pretty good deal. Who knows if someone might pop up sometime in mid season...but at this point. Remember.... even if it IS tongue in cheek ... Dougie hits bombs!!!

I'm a little surprised. I didn't expect them to sign Dougie again this year.

I like it. Wake is not going to be comfortable with anyone else, and who knows (I don't think so, but) Wake may win a bunch of games for us this year as he did last year. He had VERY LITTLE run support last year. If a few of the cold bats such as Lugo and Drew get hot, the run support problem may disappear. Besides Doug is a great team mate, cheap, and he WANTS to be in Boston. Piazza wouldn't be happy anywhere.

Quote: Well he pitched pretty well with Cash in there last year and pitched very well long before Mirabelli got here. I would have preferred they go in another direction with a younger player. There is not one clutch hit that I can remember in Doug's Sox career........ hell, Wake may not even be in the rotation. Just don't like the fact that when Wake pitches, the offense immediately has an easy out. Sants
Thanks 5, 18, 45, 38, 34, 24, 33, 49 and 7 for 2004. Thanks 24, 34, 18, 33, 46, 59, 38, 19, 15, 25 and 7 for 2007. Thanks 8, 9, 27, 14, 19, 42, 39 and 21 for all the good years. Here's to back to back championships in 2008. |

Now if Doug can get himself in shape, that might help. He has been overweight since 2005. He was slower chasing down the knuckler, and he didn't seem to be able to hit the fastball anymore. I actually thought that Kevin Cash would be the backup this year, but I guess the promise of 'Belli hitting HR's was more than Cash's feeble at bats.
Boy this is a slow offseason if Mirabelli vs. Cash is the topic of discussion. Anybody wanna trade Manny? |

After hearing what Manny is doing at the API this offseason, I don't think this is the year we want to trade Manny.

Mirabelli's like a tom cat that goes outside, disappears for weeks on end, and you think, "Well, this is it: He isn't coming back this time." Then the next thing you know, he's back on your doorstep again.
I thought Cash did a decent job catching Wakefield last season. Neither of them is anything all that exciting to see come to plate. Mirabelli has usually had a better chance of launching something, which he needs to, because he obviously couldn't run (even more last season than he normally can't run). Cash at least could do that, but it's pointless if you don't get on base somehow. Mirabelli's going to spend far more time behind the plate than at it anyway, so as long as he's still able to catch Wakefield, then there you go, I guess. Lisa You live and learn. At any rate, you live.

I love comparing Doug to a tom cat.
And he can show up on MY doorstep anytime. Ann |

Word is that the Sox have released Mirabelli. Looks like Cash will be the back up.
I wanna be a Rockstar. Go Sox!
