Patti the link was bad, but nice to see Bobby back. Maybe he'll let his hair grow back.
"ST. LOUIS -- There the Red Sox were, spilled across the Busch Stadium infield, laughing and hugging and screaming and spraying champagne and posing for photos and filling plastic bags with souvenir dirt and attempting to explain to reporters and cameramen what it meant to win the team's first championship in 86 years. And in the midst of this celebration, walked a slight old man wearing a weathered raincoat and a smile he's been waiting six decades to flash.

I don't think it is a matter of "if Coco is traded" but when and for whom. I just don't think Coco will stay especially if Coco wants to start someplace and he has value. I hope Theo can get some good value for him.

Here is a link that works...

Re-signing Kielty seems a sure sign that Coco will be traded before the season begins.
It's very hard to believe that Kielty would sign if there were already 4 starting caliber outfielders in the picture; that would basically give him zero starts. He must have been given assurance that Crisp would be gone or he wouldn't have signed IMO. |

Its not a guranteed deal
So if Bobby does not make the team he becomes a FA |

Quote: Exactly. So I read this is a great deal for the Sox, because they can try to move Coco now (or Ellsbury, I guess) and if they are unable to get what they want, they keep both of them and Kielty becomes a FA. If they do trade, then Kielty is gauranteed to be a bench player, making decent money at that. ------------------------------

Not being guaranteed makes it even more implausible that Kielty would have signed without any assurances and with 4 starting caliber outfielders. From Kielty's perspective, it wouldn't make much sense if he didn't have some kind of assurance. He could have gotten a guaranteed contract elsewhere.

It is more likely than not that Coco will be traded if real value meeting a need is available. If so, Kielty and Casey seem like excellent reserves to go along with Cora. That problably will be determined by how well Ellsbury does in Spring training and whether it seems like he picks up where he left off in the World Series. A lot can happen in the Spring and the Red Sox seem like they are protecting themselves to make sure they break camp with the right complement of healthy players. Coco, despite being more inconsistent with his bat than we expected, mostly because of his 2006 injury, is a talented player. If Ellsbury is really as ready as he looked, the Sox will probably get more value for Coco in this Spring than they would have last Fall.
