Julian says "It's this way to October..."


Here's the matchup:
BOS: RHP Julian Tavarez (7-10, 5.06 ERA)
Is this the end for Tavarez in Boston? Not so fast: the rubber-armed free-agent-to-be could still multitask his way onto the Red Sox playoff roster. Sunday's game could give a nice indication on his long-relief status as the calendar changes to October. Tavarez, who has not started since Aug. 31, is replacing Curt Schilling, who will be given the time to prepare for the ALDS.


MIN: RHP Matt Garza (4-7, 3.92 ERA)
Garza, a hard-throwing top prospect, will be looking to end an up-and-down second half on a high note. He gave up three runs in 5 2/3 innings against the Red Sox on Sept. 19, 2006.

Players to watch
The Red Sox's bullpen and bench, which could see significant time in the season's final game. After Sunday, recent additions Brandon Moss, Royce Clayton, Kevin Cash and Devern Hansack will be shutting it down for the season.
