Well, I warned Steve my lettercarrier i.e. postman about Walter. I told him that I was expecting him probably on Saturday. I warned him that if he is quietly driving along and someone starts cussing that "it's F$#%&*$ hawt" and "could they stop and get a beeah", that it was only Wally from Boston and not to get alarmed."

He said there are Postal ordinances against carrying beer on the truck, but he would make sure he would bring extra water (I'm the end of the route) for the little green guy.

Oh and I also told him not to leave the truck unattended under any circumstances and if he absolutely had to...take the keys.

4p.m. first stop Starbucks. Wally was really concerned about missing anything because of his jet lag. I was concernted that he would be too jacked up. Wally really likes to be sitting outside and reading the sports page in March with the temperature 80 degrees. I wasn't sure whether he put on the specs to see the paper or the girls in tank tops


6p.m.I then took him to dinner with a friend of mine. Of course he kept insisting on sitting on her lap. Which of course was denied. He is relentless. Kept telling her he didn't take up much space, he did a great job adjusting napkins on peoples laps, how many times has she been asked by a little green guy from Boston to sit on her lap. You know the drill. Finally I appeased him by getting him his own beer. Did he have his ID on him, he didn't. Lucky for him a guy from Boston owns the restaurant and he was recognized. He argued big time with the waitress about being carded. Told her the least she could do was give him her address. Wow...this is going to be some kind of visit.



Two Dos Equis later and a full belly and this guy was finally ready to settle down with a local dawg, Canyon the pup.



Well, unfortunately when he awoke, he was up for the duration! Cleaned out the fridge, borrowed some p.j.'s. Took over the best TV seat--the one with the ottoman. I think I am locking him in the guestroom. I did put the baseball sheets on the bed for him!
Wow...I really need to sleep now!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay John, where the heck are the clean boxers for this dude? WOW! Just threw him in the sink for a quick shower. Whew! Just looked in his travel pack and NO CLEAN BOXERS!!!!! NO CLEAN BOXERS!!!!!
This coud be a really loooong 5 days. Unless...... BRB.

5 minutes later Ah fits into Barbie's shorts. Ya gotta do what you gotta do. He is not a happy camper wearing pink shorts under his shorts but...life is hard sometimes! Besides I told him he would have to stay inside all day unless he put them on. High of 83 today. You know he won't sit and whine all day.

Okay throwing Wally's laundry in with the dirty dish towels.Talk to you guys later.

DAY #3
Well Derek, I certainly hope you are getting enough sleep, because you certainly will need it. Wally insisted on sleeping in late today. Once he was up and thoroughly coffeed up he set out for a walk. 10, 11, 12 no Wally. I get in my car and start looking for the little guy.

The desert is in bloom so it makes it harder to see him. Good thing is most everything is green or yellow. Some other colors but predominantly those colors.

I start going around the neighborhood on foot. From over one of the block walls I hear this little Boston accent. I walk over to the gate and call over. "Wally, oh Wally. My neighbor Robin comes around to the gate. "Sue, I met your little charming friend Walter!" I try to turn my head slightly so she doesn't see me roll my eyes. I follow her to her pool area. There he is happily pigging out on a massive breakfast on the patio!!!
"I made him some breakfast, he said you were still asleep"
I put on my best clenched jaw smile and told him to hurry up because we had lots to do. Robin, who is one of the nicest people you could meet, said "Where does he put it all"
I clasped my hand over his mouth before he could say something smart. We thanked Robin for her hospitality and as we were leaving, I found out Wally had invited himself on the family trip to Australia--told her he does well in a carry-on and can act as security for the trip. Man this guy just is something else!

Later as the temperature dropped to a comfy 75 degrees we got things ready for our special little trip. Wally was very excited.

When we got there the guy was at the front desk so we had to be very very careful! We parked off to the side. Our best approach seemed to be shipping and receiving. I had to use the duct tape on Wally. He was just to excited and had so much coffee earlier in the day it was unbelievable!!! I used the special key Ted had gotten from the security guard. Told him he would get him a Babe Ruth autograph for it. Guy fell for it and Ted waited til the guys boss was around and shouted out some cuss words. The boss thought it was the security guy and canned him on the spot. Ted was proud of that one!

Anyway we managed to bust Ted out. I was not taking the kid on this trip. Tough enough to deal with Ted and Wally. Quick get me some Prozac...don't we have a Pharmacist in this group?

We took Ted for a ride by some of the ST facilities locally. He was feeling a bit nostalgic and spring was in the air! Told Wally and I a bunch of stories about the good old days! He was really quite charming for a change. Wally even BEHAVED!

A good day was had by all! It was a walk in the park for a change!

Well the first set was ugly. We lost 6-2. Wally was snickering. He had been sitting and watching us. Next changeover, I grabbed his little arm flipped him over gave him a piece of my mind and wacked him over the head w/ my racquet. My opponents thought that was funny. I until we beat them 6-4 in the second set. Then during a key point in the third set I thought my partner had hit a winner and was sitting back on my heels admiring her shot when the ball came back! Well I landed flat on my back and heard laughter with a Boston accent (is that possible!) That was it. I was madder than you know what. Well every change over I gave him a swat and a piece of my mind and you know what ? We won the thirds set 6-2 and the match.

Wally was a hit with the team. He can be such a charmer when he wants to. Here he is hamming it up with Judy and Jocelyn my teamates after the match! (At one point Jocelyn did have to slap him across the face, I am not going too deeply into it, but let's just say he made a remark about her and her tennis skirt!

Ken, his wife (camera shy ) and his kids drove over from the other side of town when they heard that Wally was going for lunch at the Green Monster! (Ken by the way was at a Cubs ST game and had Todd Walker sign his RS hat and also had a GL sighting!)

Al whose son's team beat my son's team yesterday! But that's okay we had a couple Yankee fans in the crowd that we joined against to keep at bay...! Al, also had the first RS team in the league that I ran! And guess what? They beat the Yankees in the playoffs!!!

Last Day in AZ
Well, those of you who will be following me on this Wally adventure. Derek and all the rest of the host families for this season. BEWARE! He is wild, crazy and slightly deranged. Sorry but it is the truth. The nuns made me say it!

Well, most of you think this is just a little stuffed Beanie...you are WRONG! WRONG! WRONG! When no one is watching he comes alive. I thought I just tripped and fell yesterday during Tennis. In chat, Phil brought up the possibility that since I was a little testy w/ Walter during the match...well, simply put it could have been sabotage on Walter's part.

Wally, did sleep in today. He told me he needed his rest because Derek, is a young guy and maybe he can do some REAL partying when he gets to D's house.

In honor of St. Patty's day and Curt's fine pitching performance, we celebrated. It wasn't long before Wally looked like this--



John told me when he turns pink...he is rather inebriated. Well pretty soon, he was dancing on the table, he was dancing in the street, he was leaping from car to car claiming he was a leprechaun. Thankfully Canyon the little white lab retriever was there to rescue him--and me.

Within a couple of hours, Wally was back in rare form.
I had to run a couple of errands. I asked the kids to watch him. MISTAKE! He paid the kids off in fake Blockbuster cards and told Ben he would introduce him to Brittany Spears. Kids--so gullible. Anyway when I returned here is what I found.


ten minutes later the poor guy was out for the count




He came to for a while then settled in for some sleep with his faithful new dawg friend
