I think this is AWESOME, baggage aside. Imagine Brady having him to throw to? And I don't think the Pats will tolerate any of Moss' crap

OK, we draft a guy who stomps on people's faces and gets a laugh out of firing a gun in public places and now we have Randy Moss who told his coach to (family board). I am one of those people who believe that character means something.
I have an idea. We could recruit the Cincinnati Bengals. No Super Bowl will be worth this price. Pretty disappointed in the Pats right now. Peggy (Note the lack of grey) |

I love the Randy Moss trade.
A 4th rd pick? That's a no-brainer. I can just imagine Brady lobbing the ball up for him as he blows past the CB. Low risk, potential for a very high reward. If he acts like a punk, Belichick can just cut him and that's that. The whole "character" thing is so overblown. Look at Corey Dillon, he had "issues", and he came to NE and carried the team to a championship. |

Dillon came here with issues because he wanted the football. He was good till the end when he didn't get the ball as much as he wanted. Brady likes to spread the ball around IMO it won't be long till Moss cries or does something stupid and gets cut. Thus a wasted draft pick.

Phil, I hope you are not right. Wasting a draft pick on a guy with baggage is an issue for me. I can only hope that Belichick can do what he did with Dillion. Only time will tell.

Let's hope that Moss is happy with winning and he won't whine so much.

Dillon is Dillon and Moss is Moss. Dillon did not deliberately run over a crossing guard. Dillon did not beat the mother of his children. Dillon did not hang up on his coach using foul language before the coach has anything to say. There is a BIG difference here. And I do not think the media is crucifying Moss. He came here with plenty to point to. Google him and see the litany of offenses. Really easy to blame the media for jumping all over a guy with low moral character. Maybe the Saints should have taken him. (Joke---get it?
I only hope his ability on the field matches his abbility to become a better person. And I vaguely remember a thread about a certain pitcher who beat his wife up on a Boston street. Tell me how this is different. Peggy (Note the lack of Grey) RIP JH |

Quote:In the Myers case, people were crucifying him the day after he did what he did. In this case, people/media are crucifying Moss for things he did in the past, and effectively throwing the concept of forgiveness and time served out the window. It's similar to when some were getting all soap-boxy and morallizing about the Julio Lugo acquisition because his wife made up a story about him 5 years ago. People do become better people, and there are 2 sides to every story. Coach Belichick is a pretty prudent guy, and he has a decent pulse on the chemistry of the team, and whether of not a guy like Moss can realisticly disrupt that chemistry. They'll be fine. |

It is, for me anyway, a character issue. Sorry, but I think this guy is bad blood. The pattern will not change. Will Belichik be able to control him? I certainly hope so. Now please keep in mind I am not maligning his ability, only his predilection to throw it all away. Before I get off my soapbox, let me say one thing: I am disappointment in my Patriots. WIll I get over it. I hope so. Maybe going to training camp will make me feel better about the draft choice and Randy. Peggy No grey today. |

Randy Moss is coming to NE from Oakland: from a situation where there wasn't a quarterback who could get the ball to him, there wasn't another great receiver so defenses couldn't double tea him, and there wasn't a good enough offensive line to give the quarterback time to throw either.
I will go down as saying Moss will have no complaints all season with Tom Brady throwing to him from behind the Patriots' offensive line (with another good receiver on the other side so there will be little double teaming). With Stallworth, Welker, and Troy Brown around, someone is going to be open 90 % of the time. I like this move A LOT. And I'll see you after the Patriots win the Super Bowl. This team was very good already, and to add Moss is just scary. From USA Today: Moss, widely considered one of the top receivers in league history, now finds himself catching passes from Tom Brady, who has led the Patriots to three Super Bowl wins in the past six years. That excites Moss, who agreed to renegotiate his contract that had two years left, parting with a few bucks for championship potential with Brady. "Him coming in and taking grasp of being the starting quarterback of the New England Patriots and winning three Super Bowls," Moss said Sunday during a conference call. "I think that was just something that, as a fan of the game, that I always paid attention to." He is also fully aware that his spotty reputation, which includes pretending to moon Green Bay Packers fans at Lambeau Field and other assorted behavioral quirks, will follow him to New England. "I know there are some things that I have done in the past but I think that's all behind me," Moss said. "I'm really not living in the past. I'm trying to live in the present and the future. Hopefully this thing works out. I know I want it to work out, and hopefully the organization feels the same." |

___________________________________________________ Both he and his ex were arrested for this altercation, so I guess they were both the victim. "In 1996, Moss and his girlfriend were both arrested after she was accused of attacking Moss' ex-girlfriend's car. Moss got into an argument and shoving match with Libby Offutt, now the mother of his two children. The two were charged with domestic battery, with the charges later dropped." |

OK, we draft a guy who stomps on people's faces
________________________________________________ we drafted one a few years ago, his name is Richard Seymour. Who's head was that he stomped on THIS YEAR? ___________________________________________________ and gets a laugh out of firing a gun in public places ___________________________________________________ hardly gets a laugh out of it, it was a gun registered to him, the shooting took place at his apartment and he shot at someone who just shot (not shot at, shot) his roommate. |

___________________________________________________ Well, that wasn't my point. My point is that there is often more to the story. Moss isn't an ideal citizen, but neither are a lot of people already on the team, they're obviously not paid to be ideal citizens. Granted no one, that we're aware of, has the rap sheet moss has. |

The Moss deal is a good one with little downside. If he comes and plays well, all we gave up was a 4th round pick and $3-5MM. If he screws up before 9/8, we are out nothing but the pick. If he chirps up during the season, he is dumped and the Pats have only lost money. This may be the place for him, besides he needs a good year to get some $$$ and solidify that HOF vote. As for Merriweather, his part in the brawl is a case of heat of the moment. There have been many a great athlete who let the heat of the moment get the best of them in a brawl, we haven't held that against them. Hell we've all applauded Tek bashing A-Rod in the grill with his glove while wearing his mask and Fisk when he punched Piniella with the ball in his hand. The Miami brawl was one in which over 100 players were involved, 18-21 year olds. The gun incident is nothing as he is a registered owner and a teammate had been killed a week or two before. He did not shoot anyone or kill anyone. Show me an NFL team that does not have a player with some sort of minor transgression. Trust me, there is not one.

I need one last word on this. I am a registered gun owner. Yes, friends, a registered gun owner. Long story, but I had a friend who collected antique guns and requestd that I learn to fire and use a gun so I would respect them. I own a registered handgun that is a safety deposit box because I do not want it around. I do not need it and would never use it--after all I have a dog with very BIG teeth and as gentle as he is, I know protection and love when I see it.
The point: you can be a registered gun owner without carrying. My feeling: Rnady Moss has a bad history and I am am not at all happy about having him be a Patriot. Despite all the PR spin they are giving it. Sorry, but this is my opinion and there is nothing anyone can say that will convince me that this team needed him. More trouble IMO. Peggy |
