My husband saw a story somewhere (off one of the show's websites or something) about one of the significances of Hurley's lottery numbers. It's a baseball-related thing. Anyone else catch it? If you haven't read it yet, I won't give it away, but anyone who has, feel free to blurt it out!

I don't know the story of the numbers, but it's obvious one of the writers is a NY fan. When Boone's charachter died last season and Claire's baby was born the same day, everybody knew the baby would be named after Boone.... And the baby's name ended up being Aaron.... go figure
edited to add: I'm shocked it's taking this long for a Lost thread to start here! |

All retired Yankees numbers, although "8" was retired twice:
4-Lou Gehrig 8-Babe Ruth and Bill Dickey 15-Thurmon Munson 16-Whitey Ford 23-Don Mattingly 42-Jackie Robinson That's funny - I totally missed the Aaron Boone thing! And then of course there's Jack's father who always saying, "And that's why the Red Sox will never win the World Series..." I wonder if they're planning on doing something with this within the script itself, or if this is just a writer having fun. I didn't watch "Lost" at all the first season, but I rented the first season on DVD when it came out and got hooked! I wonder how many other Boston/NY references they've tucked in there. They claim to have a reason for all the little things they tuck in there, but whether they're actually relevant to the story arc is hard to say just yet. Great fodder for number conspiracy theories! Quote:That's actually Yogi's number. Both of their HoF catchers wore #8. 8, strangely enough, is also the number of people in the world who find Yogi's Aflac commercial amusing. |

8 is a good luck number in Cantonese culture.

I had forgotten about that. The episode also aired after we had won it which made me laugh. |

Regarding the Dharma Initiative...
I remember coming across "Dharma" in one of my reference books on gods and goddesses. It has him as a Hindu god of law, and Dharmakirtisagaraghosa (no, I don't know how to pronounce that!) as a Physician god and apparently meaning "sound of the ocean of the glory of the law." I wouldn't attach too much meaning between that and Jack, though, as the writers had apparently intended to kill him off in the first episode until the network told them they couldn't. If it's a huge sociological experiment, it's either going to be they all become one big happy family or some stupid thing, or it turns all Agatha Christie's "And Then There Were None." And the series might wrap with another plane/ship wreck with a new group of people, and the whole cycle starting over again. An over-simplification in many respects, but I'd rather that than the fate of "The X-Files" that just seemed to turn into such a huge, convoluted conspiracy theory that there was no gracefully convincing way to end it. So all I can infer at this point is that the writer(s) might be Buddhist Yankee fans! And by the way, the official "Lost" message board sucks. It makes me appreciate deeply how well maintained and monitored this one is. Lisa Gramen artificiosum odi.

Quote: Yeah, my wife and I both laughed at that as soon as we saw him. Paxil, thank for that Dharma post. Very interesting. I got in on LOST kind of late. We got the 1st season on DVD and a friend taped the first few episodes of this season for us to catch up. We have not missed any. I think ultimately there is going to be a Good vs Evil scenario between Locke and Echo. Remember in one of the first episodes Locke teaches Walt about backgammon and referenced the light and dark pieces in a significant manner? I'm not sure it will take a bona fide "Lord of the Flies" twist but I think there is something there. I think John Locke will ultimately prove to be an evil presence. |

The local rock station here in Springfield had an author of the unauthorized 'Lost' biography.
He indicates that the island has an increased magneticism which may account for some of the 'healing' on the island (along the lines of the healing bracelets which operate under the same principle). He also suggest that this might explain why Echo's (don't know how he spells it) cross was rising up last week. I finally finished the first season, and am pretty much caught up. The only episodes which I haven't seen are the first couple from this season. I'm having a season finale/Sox-yucks party Wednesday |

The megnatism in the hatch has been explained and it's no secret that Echo's cross was rising due to the magnets in the which seem to start to get stronger as the timer gets down to the final minutes. I'm willing to bet that the magnets are also what brought the plane down.

I'm happy that they're replaying the recap episode at 8pm tonight, because I didn't see the first 6-7 episodes

Wow....nothing?
Last night answered a lot of questions and did great to tie in the last two seasons, including (to a certain extent) explaining why the plane went down. I'm not sure if it explained why it was so far off course though. Will John be able to explain to jack about the bank drive-through teller thingys? |

Quote: That was the big one I was waiting for. Pretty freaky about the notebooks just going into a pile out the chute from The Pearl, too. They still haven't addressed what the thing was that killed the airplane pilot back in the first episodes, though - the "monster." I'm just waiting for Hurley to go postal.
