The Yankees, you have to admit, have hung in there despite all the injuries we've sustained. We're only 1.5 games out with the Sox playing very well so that ought to be of concern to the Sox Nation. This year it will be a winner-take-all because there will be no wildcard coming out of the East. Detroit and Chicago seem to have that sewn up in the Central. I'm not too happy about picking up Sidney Pontoon...I mean...Ponson. Hopefully, he'll be bending his elbow throwing pitches and not lifting schooners of beer. It does make me nervous that the Yanks are still on our tail, in spite of all the injuries. The Sox need to play as well (or better) in the 2nd half as they did in the 1st half in order to keep our playoff hopes alive. Re: Ponson - I said in another thread on this topic that as a Red Sox fan, I love that signing, but if I were a Yankee fan I'd be tearing my clothes & smearing my face with ashes. Really not sure why the Yankees picked him up, but time will tell if it was a good decision for the team or not. Hope all is well with you, we haven't heard from you, or our other Yankeeland friends, for quite a while! ~ Kate :)

Right now the Yankees are .5 behind the Red Sox for 1st place and 2.5 behind the White Sox for the wild card. It's still very much in play and too early in July to make that judgement. Every year I hear the wild card won't be out of the east....but it's a long season and these two teams know how to grind it out for 162. The Tigers have a young pitching staff. Many of them will be pitching more innings than they have in the past. The White Sox pitching is not as good as last year and they are looking to make a move. We don't know who will make trades, and even small trades can make an impact (see Cabrera/Mientkiewicz). Nope...not buying it yet. It's a long season. I have to admit though, that the thought of the Yankees on our backs this year doesnt bother me as much seeing as they're doing it with the Melky Cabreras and the Andy Phillips of the world, because its kinda hard to bash those guys.
