Murphy, With Family in the Park, Hits Walkoff 2-Out, 2-Run HR in 9th

David Murphy hit a two-out, two-run walkoff home run in the bottom of the ninth to cap a three-game run inning as the Portland Sea Dogs rallied for a thrilling 10-9 win over the New Britain Rock Cats in the opening game of a day-night doubleheader at Hadlock Field.
With the win, the Sea Dogs move into sole possession of first place in the Eastern League's Northern Division.
Down 9-7 entering the ninth inning, Brandon Moss led off the frame with a single and scored on a Jeff Bailey double (his third RBI). After a flyout and a lineout, Murphy ripped an 0-1 pitch off Pat Neshek (2-2) over the wall in right-center field, setting off a wild celebration at home plate.
Conor Brooks (1-0) earned his first Double-A win with two innings of one-run relief.
Portland let a 5-3 lead slip away in the sixth inning as the Rock Cats scored five two-out runs. Doug Deeds hit an RBI double and Danny Matienzo drilled a run-scoring single to tie the game off Pete Fisher, working in his first Sea Dogs appearance. Phil Devey entered and allowed a hit, a walk and a Alex Romero three-run double (five RBI) made it 8-5 Rock Cats.
Portland scored single runs in the seventh and eighth innings to set up the thrilling walkoff win.
Moss finished 3-for-4 with a double, walk, RBI and two runs scored to extend his hitting streak to eight games. During the hit streak, Moss is 18 for 32 at the plate, raising his average 70 points.
Bailey added two hits, three RBI and two runs scored in the win.
Murphy earned the Allied Home Mortgage Big Dog of the Game for his efforts.
