Masterson was doing well as a starter. Clay has lost every game. Seems fairly simple.

Well, I hate to say I told you so to the naysayers, but our bullpen is the second best in the AL over the last 46 games:

With the way things are going, I don't see the Sox overtaking the Rays, and the Yankees could even creep up. Then we have Buchholz making another start this week, which is probably another sure loss in the books. Joan |

Aardsma back to DL | #24 | ||

David Aardsma is back
on the DL. David Pauley has been called up.
Aardsma never seemed right after his 1st DL stint.

The Bullpen Band | #28 | ||
|
I'm sure everyone has noticed the "percussion band" the bullpen members put on during many games. Well that band needs a name -- and I would
suggest "The Arsonists". And like the Ramones, everyone should use that name as their surname. So let me introduce members Hideki Arsonist, Manny
Del Arsonist, Craig Arsonist (oops, left the band) and David Aarsonist.
(As you can see I'm still PO'd about yesterday's game).

I've tried to find this on the Web, but no luck. Does anyone know how many blown saves/games the bullpen has this year?

ESPN MLB Player Pitching Stats: 2008 Blown Saves 8 Hideki Okajima BOS 4 Jonathan Papelbon BOS 3 Manny Delcarmen BOS 2 Craig Hansen BOS 1 Javier Lopez BOS 1 Kyle Snyder BOS Losses 3 Mike Timlin BOS 3 Jonathan Papelbon BOS 3 Craig Hansen BOS 2 David Aardsma BOS 2 Manny Delcarmen BOS 2 Hideki Okajima BOS 1 Julian Tavarez BOS 19 blown saves/59 Save Opportunities 68%, 7th, right in the middle with ChiSox. 16 losses - some/all of these may have already been counted above in the blown saves category... not sure how that works. If you use team stats and filter with "As a reliever", it shows 17 losses so I must have missed one on the individual stats. Only ChiSox and TB have fewer BP losses.

stevenunderwood wrote:Yeah, he looked horrible tonight. Not enough innings and then too many at one time, I think. It definitely stinks. The rest of the bullpen has been doing great, and now is not the time for Papelbon to start blowing it.

Some times you just need to believe your eyes. Who the manager puts out there, when he puts them out there and what they do.
