My only hesitation at this trade is that we may have given up too much for him. But, with the way Manny was acting, they HAD to trade him. Granted with a
sample size of 2 games, it is too early to say that Bay will be an adequate replacement, but there is no denying that he is off to a GREAT start. I am
reminded of the Nomar trade. (Forgive me if this has been pointed out, I did not read all 16 pages of posts). We made a blockbuster trade, lots of people
(including myself) were shocked and outraged, but in the end it was the right move. I think this is a similar situation. For once, I agree with Eekman. We
are better off without the Manny-Go-Round spinning through the clubhouse.

Kate,
You can send the royalties for the use of my copyrighted phrase (Manny-Go-Round) to me in the Bounder! I'll blow it all on Skee-Ball at the beach. Seriously, I am with those who are glad Manny is not a headache for the Red Sox anymore. He needed to be gone for both his sanity and mine. Maybe we'll be a better team without him, maybe not. Either way, Joe Torre gets to worry about what fictitious injury Manny will develop next or what opposing player he'll be sharing drinks with when he is too ill to play in an important game.

I expect Manny will be on his best behavior in L.A. the place where he "wants to spend the rest of his career" (didn't I hear that about Boston
in April) Manny's stick-withit-ness centers around his bat, him mouth and his behavior is all over the place. I hope he is happy in L.A. I also hope the

No way Manny stays in LA. McCourt is too cheap to pay him. Manny went 2 for 4 again but with a two run jack.

We all know (or suspect) that Manny will be a Yankee next year, and that it's the Yankee way to overpay aging players.
We survived when Johnny Damon went there (and seemed to later regret it--how many WS's has he won there?), and we will survive this also. The Evil Empire will not win a WS with Manny, but we may win several without him. PLAY BALL!! Ann |

Seems people are having a lot of fun with Manny saying he likes being with the Dodgers. This isn't as inconsistent as people think. Back in 2006 when he
and the RS last flirted with a trade he said he wanted to be traded to Southern California (to the Angels at that time because it was the AL).
Living here I can tell you there isn't much not to like, particularly if you have the kind of money Manny does. And it suits any former RS player who feels the inability to go anywhere in public without being constantly accosted is an issue. In a region loaded with celebrities athletes are just "folks"in LA. Also the Dodgers play in a very appealing location, the franchise has history and tradition and he gets to work for Joe Torre. Let's face it Manny had a great core fan following in Boston but he was often flogged in the papers, talk shows, electronic media and whether through his own fault or not had a very bumpy relationship with his employer. So what's the surprise he says he's happy to be in a place when the days are almost never too hot, never too humid, the nights always cool not cold and he can just blend in? McCourt's isn't cheap as the ill fated Andruw Jones and Jason Schmidt contracts evidence. His issue will be total operating capital because of those deals, though some combination of Furcal, Garciaparra, Lowe, Penny and Kent will all be coming off the books. Operating capital is the same problem the Angels with have with Mark Tex, who is IMHO the guy the NYY will pursue rather than our former LF. The NYY only interest in him would have been to subtract him from the AL East and we have already done that. Boras' jewel client isn't the aging former 24 - current 99 but rather the switch hitting first baseman currently working in the OC. |

I agree the Yanks have too many OF/DH types to even want to pursue Manny. San Diego is a power hitter's grave yard. The NorCal teams would never put up the
money for him. Would Anaheim have any desire? SoCal would be good for a guy like him.

I'm clearly in the minority but it was a very sad day for me to see Manny traded. I don't believe all the FO leaks and never did. Have watched the
same hacks spread the venom several too many times. The best thing for my sanity right now is to avoid the Globe and keep the remote handy when I watch the
sports shows.
I understand that the organization wants to be sure we don't blame them if we don't do well in the off-season, but I for one am sick of hearing it. The deal is done, he is gone. I would really like it if they would let us enjoy getting to know Bay and drop the media blitz. |

You know what I think is idiotic - those "Manny Who" posters printed by WEEI. This should show that they are a totally pathetic radio station.
I'll still track Manny because I like his game, but I still root for the Sox.
Jason Bay has been a fine replacement so far and he seems like a good guy (after all he's Canadian).

Time to move on... Manny loves LA / LA loves Manny / Boston loves Bay / Bay loves Boston - in the end everyone can find a positive.
The tacky signs were a little offensive - especially being help by people that were chanting his name not too long ago - and will in the future be telling their grandkids about how they saw him play. |

Even though the trades seem to be working out well for both sides, there's still a lot of stuff that seems to be coming out that's pretty interesting.
So I think we have "moved on", but there's still things to talk about. I for one, will be following Manny's career and L.A., and hope that
Jason Bay can continue to do well for the Sox.

I make no bones about it, I hope Manny does poorly and we win the WS. Then I hope he doesn't get near the contract he desires from a team he loathes.
