Game 111: 8/2/08 vs. Oakland, Lester vs. Eveland |
Lead | ||
|
Here's the matchup:
Red Sox: When Lester last took the mound on Sunday against the Yankees, New York had taken the first two games of the series and were in
position to draw even with the Sox in the standings. But just as he's done all season, Lester delivered a brilliant outing that propelled Boston to a 9-2
win. He went seven strong innings and allowed just two runs -- both coming in a troublesome fifth inning. He recorded a no-decision on April 23 against the
Angels, allowing four runs and two homers in a 6-4 Boston loss.
A's: After posting four innings of one-run ball in his last start against Texas, Eveland ran into trouble in the fifth frame and let
frustration get the best of him en route to allowing five runs. The A's offense, though, had already given him six runs, so Eveland walked away with a
no-decision. This will mark his first career start against Boston.

Lester has, without question, become the ace of this staff right now. He's the one pitcher in the rotation that I look forward to watching each time he
pitches!

It;s getting pretty dark here now. They've been saying rain this afternoon and some of the storms coming through will be pretty powerful. Hope it holds
off so we get some baseball in tonight.

Tough top of the 1st for Lester but not as tough as Eyeland's bottom of the first.
More hits and runs tonight than in a long time!

Lester really settled down after that first inning. Nice offense tonight. Wish we could gain some ground in the standings. TB needs to stop winning!!!

Lester got over his first inning problems then the offense took over, now we need to have the offense keep it up.

I was sweating in the top of the first, but it was nice to see Lester get it together & pitch a great game. Glad the offense finally showed up! Let's
keep it up!

Eveland made such an impression on the A's, they sent him down to Sacto.
