How did the NYY pull this off? They got 2 good players for nothing!

When was the last time the Pittsburgh FO made a good trade (Suppan for Sanchez?)

I remember this time last year, many of us were bemoaning the fact that Theo did nothing during trade time. And they won a World Series. I think the problems
are way more serious this time around, bullpen for example, but it makes me think that things are going to remain as is for now. Hope Theo proves me wrong and
does something about the bullpen.

We traded for Gagne last time. It didn't work out, but we did do something.

The Red Sox bullpen is essentially the same as last year's that won it all, except it has one more excellent addition (Aardsma, though he's now on the
DL).
How is it the bullpen is a problem?? Remember 2004?? The pitching got hot down the stretch, and made numbers that were mediocre up to that point turn into a good bullpen. I'm not worried about the bullpen. Okajima has returned to his old self, Delcarmen is the same pitcher as last year, ditto Javier Lopez, Timlin hasn't lost it yet, and Papelbon is Papelbon. And an impressive Masterson has been thrown into the mix, and a solid Aardsma as well. Bullpens have hot and cold stretches. My prediction: a hot stretch for the bullpen, and people saying at the end of the year how great the pen was this year. No worries here.

Delcarmen was much better last year down the stretch, I think Masterson will help. They still need another arm out there.

Going through your list with comments: Okajima - has been inconsistent at best, but has the skills to do it. Delcarmen - has NOT been the same pitcher as last year to this point but has shown signs of being good. Javier Lopez - has done as I have expected so far this year. Timlin - is showing his age, I'm afraid he is done. Papelbon - even he has not been up to last years domination. And an impressive Masterson has been thrown into the mix, and a solid Aardsma as well.- agree I'm still convinced they will get the whole package together and make the playoffs (BLUE all the way), but there ARE concerns with how they are pitching right now.

Mark Teixeira is a big improvement over Kotchman, especially power-wise, but also even defensively.
This may be the year of the Angels if they can stay healthy!

Angels must be the favorites in Vegas right now.

Found this site this morning:
http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/ One more day to go. I was reading something about the Mets and Manny thing morning. Wouldn't it be nice to get..... Carlos Beltran? Yes, I'm dreaming. Joan |

Getting Beltran would not help at all. This guy has been nowhere near worth his contract. At least Manny has produced consistently for the 8 years here.
Beltran has been an average player for all 3 years of that deal so far. The fact that we could have had Tex for Youk and Hansen last week should have been done
immediately. Trading Manny to FLA as the rumors are currently would not get much in my opinion, unless we are getting the other Ramirez back.

If either Hermida or Bay become Red Sox in a Manny deal, the Red Sox should MAKE THE DEAL!
They become an instant playoff team as soon as they trade Manny IMO. (And so does whoever gets him)

Yankees trade Kyle Farnsworth for Pudge Rodriguez.
Chicago White Sox will be acquiring Ken Griffey Jr pending his approval of the deal. No word yet on who the WS are giving up. |
