PS: You guys know me and I'm not picking on Manny, because he is a Sawk. I wouldn't tolerate it no matter what team he played for. I think the Astros did the right thing. I'm not saying the Sox have to dump Manny, but they do need to ding him good.

So what's the consensus about the latest "Manny being Manny?" Say what you want, but there is a fluctuating standard in baseball. Shawn Chacon
knocks down the Houston Astros GM and he's dumped in 10 minutes. Manny floors a 64 year old travel guy, because he coudn't get him 16 tix at the last
minute and he's still playing ball? I was listening to the "Michael Kay Show" on ESPN 1050 in NY and he had on Terry Francona (whom I admire a
lot). Francona said the incident was being handled "internally." Does anyone know what that means? Does anyone think Manny should be punished for
doing this or let it go? I would hope if ARod or Jeter did something similar the Yankees would drop the hammer on them. Fine them, suspend them or whatever.
The Sox need to protect all their employees and they need to send a message this kind of stuff won't be tolerated. Agreed? It's bad for the team and
bad for baseball.

I have been disappointed that there has been no public reaction to this "incident" (quoted because not really strong enough, but the closest word I
found to fit my feelings at the moment). I feel a fine and suspension was in order, but much closer to the issue. It is almost too late at this point.

I personally hope that there has been internal handling of this situation. Totally unacceptable IMO.
While I respect the ability of Terry Francona et al to keep things out of the press at times, I think you are right on the mark Russ when comparing to the Chacon incident. While I am not sure letting Many go is the answer, I think the silence sends the wrong message. Obviously someone associated with the team was upset enough to share the story with Sean McAdam (whom I respect a lot) Maybe that someone will share the handling or non-handling as well at some point. At the least a significant fine, anger management and donation to some type of charity related to victims of assault would seem in order. Oh, and what are your thoughts on the soap opera that is A-Rod?

I think ARod needs to get glasses
That said, the Yankees' problems are much deeper than one philandering and wandering husband. They just aren't a very good team this year, and will finish just about .500. Sad, not having the Yankees in the playoffs, but they've reaped what they've sown. Spending too much money and not getting a return for it. The Sox better watch it too, because they could be headed down the same path if not careful. Tampa Bay has the lowest payroll in baseball and are kicking everyone's ass. It ain't all about money. Drive and perciverance have it all over complacency and lack of dedication. I honestly wish Tampa well. It will be fun to see how they finish out in the second half. |

Just read Dan Shaughnessy's article in the BG, and an attached video. It ain't looking good for Manuel Aristides Ramirez to remain in Boston. I admit
he's a flake, but who're the Sox going to get who can put up the numbers like he does? He still the best two-strike hitter in baseball, but it looks
like Terry Francona (whom I like a lot) and the Red Sox upper echelon have had it. What do you guys think? If they let ManRam go, is that going to punch a
big hole in the line up? Who could they get to shore up the offense in the clean up. I think that Ortiz and Manny feed off each other, and I think it would
adversely affect Papi's production if they don't have a dangerous hitter behind him. He doesn't run well, and he'd be looking at a lot more
BB's with no Manny or power hitter behind him.
Thoughts?

While I know Manny provides protection for Papi, I believe his days in a Red Sox uniform are numbered. This is the team unafraid to make a bold move in 2004 at
the deadline when the feeling was Nomar was a distraction. I am unsure if a deal that Manny would approve can be pulled off in 4 days, but if it can be done I
will not be surprised if in fact it is done.

Remember Manny is a 10-5 guy so he has veto power over trades. As for next year, don't be surprised to see him elsewhere. They put him on waivers where any
team could take him for nothing and no one did (though you had to pay the remainder of the contract). Maybe the Bronx for $15 M next year?

He won't come to the Yanks. He's what, 37? I think the Yankees will be trying to downsize their payroll, but letting Giambi walk next year, and
possibly Matsui and Damon in '09. He looked especially lazy in today's game. I mean he didn't even trot out of the box when he lined to left field
and he certainly didn't hustle down the line to avoid a double play. I agree, I think his days in a BoSox uniform are numbered.

No doubt Manny is playing for a new contract. Since his trade to the Dodgers he's gone 4-for-8, with a home run and 2 RBI. He's provided the Dodgers
with instant offense and he was hustling in the field, run hard, etc. Amazing what motivates folks isn't it?

That's the aggirvating part cali. He could have done the same here in Boston. Played out his contract hustled hit etc. Instead he shot his way out of
dodge. I am greatful for all he contributed to the team over the years but I lay most of the blame of what happened on Manny.
