First he hits youk, now he pushes the traveling secretary to the ground because he can't get 16 tickets to a game...

He seems to be much more aggressive this year.

Typical media Manny shots. The guy has been more assessible to them than ever before. Yet when he stubs his toe they are all over him....Gordo, in
yesterday's globe devotes a note to the slumping Jacoby Ellsbury--but has never (this year or ALL of the other years) said a negative word about Kaptain
teK who has stunk it up over the last 6 weeks. This from a guy who stupidly wrote a few years ago that teK was a lock for the H of F. ..Oh to be a media fav in
Boston.

How is accurately reporting that Manny pushed a team employee to the ground a "typical media manny shot"? He didn't stub his toe, he attacked a
team employee because he may not have been able to get Manny what he wanted.

Unacceptable behavior in regards to Mr. McCormick, however the man has apologized and it has been accepted leave it be. As for the Youk $@!#@ slap, based on reports, it was coming sooner or later from Manny or someone else. Youk has been in a little more control since the event.

Not sure where you got the report that Manny "attacked" the guy Captain, I havent seen that word used in any report. And I have yet to see
Manny's side of the story. He has taken the high road to put it behind the team. Was he provoked? I have no idea, but I do know he has never been accused
of any such behavior during his carreer to my knowlege , other than Youk and I cant say that I would describe that as an attack. And I read --I think in the
7/1 Globe that he had the support of many of his teammates in the Youk incident.

You wouldn't describe taking a swing and then needing to be restrained by multiple teammates as an attack? I consider any physical altercation on the
part of one person (manny smacking youk or pushing a team employee to the ground) as an attack. Courts usually do too.
Manny was out of line in both instances, it really isn't difficult to admit. I didn't see any teammate come to mannys defense for hitting another teammate. Yes, there were multiple reports of teammates being annoyed with youks antics, but not one I can recall came out in defense of hitting another teammate. |

Neither Manny smacking Youk or knocking Mr. McCormick down would constitute an attack in any courts eye. There is not a prosecutor in the world who would take either case (unless he is trying to become famous). We don't know the story in Houston and will never know what truly happened. It's ova, let it go. As for Youk and Manny, things like that happen a lot, just usually out of the camera's view. Listen to any former player and they have said as much (Merloni, Dibble, Remy, etc.). As for teammates coming to Manny's defense, you also have not heard one of them come out and say it should NOT have happened.

Manny never actually hit Youk. Took a swing, sure, but no contact was made. Or at least as far as I could see. Put pushing someone to the ground DOES
constitute an assault. Now, obviously no one will ever press charges, but it is an assault. If this were some movie star pushing someone, then charges would be
files and no doubt the star would enter a plea for community service and anger management. It happens all the time. Just because no one will file charges
doesn't mean it isn't assault.

Well whatever, maybe manny can stop attacking teammates and team employees and start hitting again, it sure has been awhile and he's even missing fastballs
down the middle of the plate.
Actually, one more thing about the youk situation. Many fans and apparently teammates feel this was justified because youk complains all the time... well, there is at least one other player I can think of on the team that does the same thing. Yet, I haven't seen manny take a swing at ortiz...

Guess we can agree to disagree on this one Captain. ..Interesting how you and many, many fans and announcers (Jerry is one certainly one of them) who are quick
to critique the flaws in Manny's swing, but hardly a word is siad about the other Kaptain- teKK who is putrid at the plate. I am still amazed that a hit
and run is on with him at the plate. I guess I am a lone voice howliing in the wind about this guy but hopefully we only will have to watch him in a Sox
uniform for 3 more months.

LOL. I love how you switch the focus to Varitek. Death, taxes, and itisnextyr.
To be honest, I now agree with you that he isn't good anymore. It took, what, 3 years...but we are on the same page with the Captain. |

Well, tek is only being paid half of what manny is and contributes more defenisvely. That's about all I can say in defense of CCC, his offense is putrid.
Manny should begin feeling embarassed, even lugo is catching up to his BA. |

It only took 4 years to convince you Clemens ! ( Actually, I do know that teKK has changed alot of opinions all by himself)...Good to see you. Is it me or is
this site very bland this year? It is like a lovein around here. I miss Marc's input. Oh yeah-- saw your comment in the B P thread about Francona/Timlin.
The same could be said for Francoma/teKK. Tito likes him & trusts him.How else could you ever explain using teKK as a PH or allowing a hit & run with
teKK at the plate- in any situation- let alone a key spot late in the game !!

This is way off-topic in this thread, but I feel a need to comment on this. A manager puts a hit and run on, specifically when a guy is struggling, to get him
focused on the ball and try to limit what he is trying to do, put the ball in play in a certain direction. It did not work... lots of things during a game do
not work. I personally never like 2 hit & run chances in a row which I think was the mistake... not the first one.
The PH role also did not work, but again I think it was trying to get Tek into a different role, coming off the bench to try and spark something, not thinking defense. I still do not agree with PH'ing him in that situation, however.

Ramirez' usual consistency has spoiled a lot of people. His offensive game is suffering right now but he has been playing hurt and that often creates bad
habits that then take time to work through. Last time I looked he still leads the team in RBI and is tied for the lead in HR and has a .371 OBP.
His on field performance is much ado about very little. His flare up in Houston is embarassing and unfortunate. Not knowing all the facts I can not even begin to find it a defensible action. His encounter with Youkilis on the other hand while badly handled was very different. Youk's constant whining at the plate over time effects every RS hitter because umps just get sick of that poop. The comments coming out of the clubhouse via the press seem to indicate Ramirez was far from the only teammate sick of the whining and tantrums. Just the same the dugout isn't the place to hash that out in front of the NESN cameras. But as an offensive player I think Ramirez prowess and work ethic, combined with the fact he has been playing on a bad hamstring suggest it is far too soon to declare the sky is falling. My intent is not change the topic but Manny's slump IMHO is less concerning than the previously mentioned struggles of Varitek who looks like a 36 year old catcher at the plate or for that matter Jacoby Ellsbury whose unfettered trip to Cooperstown has been delayed by a change of tact by opposing pitchers (think of this in 101 PAs in June Jacoby walked THREE times). Now if I look at these three players who had a rough patch in June I have faith but no historical performance to base it on that Jacoby will adjust and rebound. I have no faith or recent history to assume we are not watching the steady decline of Varitek and every reason to believe Ramirez will break out and have a stretch at some point where he is so hot he can carry the team for a week. |

The thread police will punish me for this off thread continuing rant, but Steve - I think I can answer my own question about why Francona would ever put on a
hit & run with teKK @ the plate : Tito is hoping to move an infielder thereby allowing teKK's ever present dp grounder to sneak thru the infield. Me?
I always prefer a K from teKK with men on base thereby avoiding the dp.
