Game 47: 5/19/08 vs Kansas City, Lester vs Hochevar |
Lead | ||
|
Here's the matchup:
Red Sox: The left-hander has pitched six innings in two of his three starts this month, including last Wednesday in Baltimore, when he left
leading 3-2. He allowed five hits and two runs, walking two and fanning four. He is making his first start at Fenway since May 4 against Tampa Bay. Lifetime
against the Royals, Lester is 1-1 with a 2.77 ERA in two starts.
Royals: Hochevar wasn't at his sharpest last Wednesday night but he still managed to shut out the Tigers for six innings, giving up just
four singles. He showed an ability to work out of jams, important progress for a rookie, and he did it against an experienced, very dangerous lineup. This
was his fifth start since being called up from Triple-A Omaha on April 20. In all but his first outing, he's pitched six or seven solid innings. With an
effective sinker, he's been good at inducing ground balls, getting eight outs that way against the Tigers along with five strikeouts.
Here's the end of our "regular" pitching staff for a couple of days.... Masterson on Tuesday and Colon on Wednesday. Should be interesting. Go
SOX!!

This game should be fun. The Sox are more dangerous than the Tigers right now, and the Fenway atmosphere will be a new experience for Hochevar. Let's see
how the rookie holds up! Lester is having a nice year so far, I expect he'll have a good game. I like our chances.
The more interesting games will be Tuesday and Wednesday. And how much of a regular thing is it goign to be where Lugo gets yanked in the 9th inning for defensive reasons? I just find that embarrassing for us to not be able to rely on our starting shortstop for defense! |

We are on a roll, so let's keep it going ... may the offense be better than our pitching ... and may the pitching be damn good!

Great game by Lester. He attacked the zone! The Sox now have the last two no-hitters thrown in the majors.

My first 40+ years, I'd never seen a no-hitter live (watching on NESN of course).
Since Sept 1st, I've now seen 2. Congrats to Jon Lester! Talk about being on TOP OF THE WORLD! Beats cancer, wins the clinching game of 2007 WS, and now a no-hitter. WOW! - Kevin |

Way to go Jon Lester!!!!!!
While nothing will ever top beating cancer, winning the clinching game of the 2007 World Series and pitching a No Hitter tonight are surely highlights 2 and 3 of your young life!!!

Around the 5th inning, when they showed the scoreboard I thought "hey, he's pitching a no-hitter." DUH!!!

All I know if I came into chat tonight and said, "Lester's throwing a no-hitter," someone would have tossed me.
But seriously, this is a story that has transcended sports. Jon has survived cancer, pitched the clinching game of the 2008 WS and then threw the no-no tonight. I think he'll be on a whirlwind tour of the morning shows tomorrow then on Letterman. It's truly a great story. Ken |

I listened to this one tonight and I'm glad I did. What a great effort for someone who has been though so much at a young age.
How about our Catcher, the first person to catch 4 no hitters in a career since 1900. That's damned impressive

Schills Mighty Ankle wrote: So sorry for your loss Schills. I must agree with the tear in the eye. It's apparent Tito and Lester share a special bond. As a father of an 18 yr
old healthy boy, the "hug" with Tito and Johnny struck a cord with me as well.
