Game 26: 4/26/08 at Tampa - Buchholz vs. Jackson |
Lead | ||
|
Having recently been bitten myself......
Here's the matchup:
Red Sox: Buchholz pitched brilliantly in his last start, firing six shutout innings in a victory over the Rangers. He allowed five hits and
struck out six. Opponents are hitting .274 against Buchholz. This will be his first career appearance against Tampa Bay. Buchholz has given up three earned
runs or less in three of his four starts. Buchholz has pitched eight games in his young career, going 4-2 with a 3.12 ERA.

Rays: Jackson suffered through another sub-par start Sunday against the White Sox when he allowed six earned runs on seven hits in 4 1/3
innings. The right-hander continues to show electric stuff, but struggles on the days when his stuff is not at its best. Jackson has worked to try and
minimize the big inning, which he did not do well against the White Sox, when he allowed the White Sox to put away the game with a four-run fifth inning.

The match-up looks slightly tilted on the Sox' favor. But, the way I see it, Buchholz has to get us through 7 innings, and turn it over to Okajima and Papelbon. The rest of the 'pen is either struggling or overused. They could use the rest. Could be a good offensive day. I'd hate to be Big Papi's cat last night when he got home. We sure know he tried, and he puts a lot of it on his own shoulders. Frustrating night. |

bartlettkidz wrote: Nancy, I don't think the soapbox was necessary, and I was offended by your implying to people that I think Papi is a mean person who is unkind to animals. That is not true. You do know that "to go home and kick your cat" is only a figure of speech to communicate that a person is very frustrated, right? It does not mean the person is "actually" going to go home and kick his or her cat. Are you okay with the phrase "kill two birds with one stone"? {I'm sick and fighting some kind of cold or flu and hardly got any sleep - so I'm not in the greatest of moods this morning - sorry}

Not sure on Ortiz. Maybe just to clear his head after 0-6 last night?
Looks like a DL stint might be coming for Sean "The Mayor" Casey? Brandon Moss called up

Crap... A great outing by Buchholz spoiled by one stupid pitch. This is a mean game. And unless we can actually get something going in the 9th, we're
looking at a 4-game skid now.

I missed most of the game .... why was Bucholz still in the game in the 8th? No matter how well he pitched, Tito usually has Pap come in sometimes in the 8th
to make sure and get the win ... don't know what Bucholz pitch count was but he must have put someone on base before the homer so why leave him in ... Just
wondering.
Nothing like snatching defeat from the jaws of victory ... And what is up with those stupid bells!!! ACK! Sharon |

What a shame. Clay was cruisin'! I think probably since he had the one-hitter going he might have gone the whole game, or the plan was to bring in Papelbon
in the 9th. Oh well. On the other hand, Tampa Bay's pitchers weren't too shabby either.

I'm sick of losing! I really felt bad for Clay. He pitched an outstanding game. It's a tough call. Had they put someone from the pen in and they gave
up the homer, everyone would say- why didn't they leave Clay in? Offense needs to wake up!
