The main candidates: Clay Buchholz - Personally, I'd like to see Clay get the nod. I'm less conservative than others when it comes to prospects, and I think it's been demonstrated that his stuff is MLB quality. Julian Tavarez - He'd be entertaining at the very least. His wild spells make me nervous, and I'd prefer to not see him pitch 150+ innings. Kyle Snyder - A true long shot, but according to this article, he thinks he has a chance. Sorry Kyle, but I'm going to have to sort of...disagree with you there, m'kay? David Pauley - A long shot. Could see spot starts if someone gets hurt. Bartolo Colon - Former Cy Young winner, but returning from a terrible injury plagues season. Not to mention, he's somewhat obese (5'11", 250+ lbs). Lord knows what we'll get from him. Rem Pup Posts: 20 03/04/08 5:19 PM Rem Pup	IMO - Dark horse Kyle Snyder pulls it out and takes the 5 spot. Why? Because he's comfortable. Throwing easily, he's feels better, and it is starting to show. Changing speeds effectively. If he can spot his fastball consistently inside and up, on both sides of the plate, changing speeds will have everyone out in front. Health and stamina are the concern, but not in first half of spring, till June. Why? Bartolo Colon wasn't signed to help Pawtucket, he takes 5th spot if and when he shows he is capable. Fans seem to care about his weight a whole lot more then Sox mgt. does. Julian Tavarez can be more effective in long relief pitching 3 times per week rather then once ever 5 days. Clay Buckholtz starts his season in AAA, working on his mechanics to get more consistent with his motion. Dave Pauley gets a bus ticket, and a small boxed lunch w/ Strawberry Quick. Rem Pup Posts: 488 03/04/08 5:37 PM Rem Pup	I am not sure who they will "go" with, but I like the idea of that slot being basically wide open for the taking. I would expect that there will be a lot of movement in the slot durring the year and perhaps at the trade deadline they bring in a more dependable fifith for the second half and the post. Personally, I don't see Curt coming back.

I have heard him interviewed after his last 2 starts and each time he says his location (getting the ball up too high until he settles down). Farrell will continue working with him. If he is still not ready at seasons beginning, let the competition continue between the pitcher the Sox might obtain in a trade for Coco and Tavares and Snyder. It is a long season and we don't really know how Lester and Wakefield are going to hold up anyway, so it is a good idea to have this other competition continue.

IMHO, neither Lester or Bucholz have been that great in spring training, but then I guess that's spring training.... Beckett, DiceK, and Wake are firm, 4th and 5th look to me to be up for grabs.
