The Sox have a chance today to take one against the refurbished Rays before heading home to a deserved day off and then a series vs. the Jays. Beckett is
scheduled to take the mound for the Sox and has hopefully overcome his recent ailments. He is a sturdy ace and we can take confidence from his past

Scouting Report: Red Sox: Beckett had just been rounding into form after coming off the disabled list when a combination of a cold and a stiff neck forced him to skip his last start. This will be Beckett's fourth start of the season. He has six walks and 16 strikeouts over 19 1/3 innings while holding opponents to a .200 average. Beckett is 3-2 with a 4.26 ERA in five starts lifetime against the Rays. He is 1-1 with a 2.77 ERA at Tropicana Field. Rays: The right-hander is coming off his second win of the year, in which Shields gave another solid mound performance. Although not his best outing, Shields tossed a solid seven innings in a 6-4 win over Toronto, allowing only two earned runs on six hits. The win was Shields' first since Opening Day in Baltimore, and extends his streak against the Blue Jays to 3-0. |
