Game 25: 4/25/08 at Tampa - Wakefield vs Garza |
Lead | ||
|
Stop the insanity, find some healthy players, and for goodness sake would somebody on this team wash their hands once in awhile; Tim Wakefield (2-0, 3.96), at
least for now, and the Small Pox fly into Tampa to face Matt Garza (0-0, 9.00) and the Ambiguous Rays. Garza threw five scoreless innings in his only start
against Boston last year. He has been on the DL for the last two weeks with arm issues. In his two starts before that stint, he gave up a run per inning and
a walk per strikeout. Wakefield/Chris Smith/Tavarez/A Drifter has generally had success in domes/will be called up from Pawtucket/has a history of success
against Tampa/will get a free uniform.

Here's hoping Wake can go very deep into this game, because we all know how the BP
middle relievers have performed of late!

Here's some fun to help relieve the tension of the last two days...If you can't laugh at Tampa Bay, who can you laugh at?

If you can't laugh at Tampa Bay, who can you laugh at?And thus another who doesn't know how good Tampa is. They just swept Toronto and I mean these kids are playing with nothing to lose and they're playing well.

Don't underestimate the Rays. I live in FL and I watch em all the time. They don't give up.

I'm just having some fun - they have had some impressive young talent for a number of years - Scott Kazmir is a huge favorite of mine, and Rocco Baldelli
is a great talent from my home state.
Problem is they never quite have the right mix to make it all come together, and as a year or two go by, as they add on missing pieces, they lose important pieces due to a limited salary. If they had more to spend, they'd be a serious challenger. But, to be honest, this year will be like recent years. They'll have some success, show some talent, and occassionally look like a contender. But, does anyone think they'll end up higher than 3rd in the East, or have a real shot at the playoffs come September? I suppose they could turn into a '67 Impossible Dream Team, but I doubt it. As far as this 3 game series, with the Sox still reeling from the flu and injuries, I would not be surprised if the Rays kick some butt. It has happened before. |

Their biggest problem is their bullpen. Their starters do pretty well and offense is good, but their bullpen usually blows it.

This is so not pretty ... another DP ...
Well at least they are still in it ... see if the pen can hold the Rays another inning .. somethings gotta give. Not like the Sox haven't had the chances. Hate to see Big Papi slide back into that slump ... |
