Home Run Derby!

The annual Home Run Derby on the eve of the All Star Game is good entertainment. You get to see the players interact with their buddies, you get to see them interact with their kids, you get to see the kids chasing down the balls and you get to watch the "big kids" put on a multi-hitter batting practice display. I love it! Tune in to ESPN tonight at 8:00 for the fun. According to mlb.com:

Rays The Best In Baseball

The Tampa Bay Rays have the best record in baseball, and have a big 3 of Kazmir, Shields, and Garza. Their offense is great, and has potential to even be better!!
I think the Rays are for real. Even if they don't win the division, if they finish ahead of the Yankees, I'll be happy for them! (Although I'd like to see them finish 2nd behind a certain Boston team)

The Milwaukee Brewers now have a big 3 of Ben Sheets (all-star), C.C. Sabathia (reigning Cy Young), and Manny Parra (one of the best young pitchers in baseball)
Their offense already has the potential to be the best in baseball.

Pedro might retire after the season to tend to his father, who has brain cancer. If so, I'll be sad, not only for Pedro and his pop, but because it's the end of the career of a guy who might have been the most talented pitcher in the history of the game.

Am I the only one who is actually excited for the Rays? I mean, don't get me wrong, I'd love to see them finish behind the Sox, but at the same time I am glad they are doing well. They've built a team with young talented pitchers and they are performing well. I'm oddly not upset to be in 2nd place at the moment. Weird...

The Chi Sox are off to a good start this year. 10-6. Have they reinvented themselves, will it be Chicago and not Cleveland or Detroit that we need to be worried about? Or maybe the are off to a good start and lack the depth to be serious contenders. Is their starting pitching good enough to carry this team through 162 games?

Wow, after 6 games the Rays have locked up Evan Longoria to a 6 year deal in the neighborhood of $17.5MM. That is moving quickly on a future star to keep him from having a Papelbon moment like this year and what is likely to be an ugly arbitration fight next year. Good for the Rays, looks like the new management may actually have a plan.
