Countdown to 2008 Season Opener

Time for the "other" baseball season to begin. Trade Rumors, Free Agent Signings, who is coming, who is going. It is all here....and remember The BOSTON RED SOX are WORLD CHAMPIONS.....AGAIN!!!"You look at the calendar and shake your head. The time is surely not short. You count up the months, the days, the hours, Until pitchers and catchers report." - Steve Pellikan in Offseason Blues (2003)

Sorry to be about 12 days late in the countdown but was trying to track down the actual Opening date. From a few things I found it is 4/3 but could change. So I am going until 4/3 until I get the actual date then will adjust.
ENJOY!!
Mo Vaughn had 143 RBI in the 1996 season.

Come on guys - I am not trying to be negative here, but this is a wonderful thing that Tom does for us all season long (both Countdown and Countup). It takes an incredible amount of work on his part, I, for one, enjoy it thoroughly, and isn't a joking matter... JMOYou dont want to eat the cake before your birthday. Manny Ramirez

The season opener now seems to be on March 25 against Oakland in the Tokyodome.

With the news coming out today for the Opener on 3/25 I have had to adjust. So today is:
Bob Stanley had 132 saves in his Sox career. It is the current Sox record for saves, likely to be taken over by Jonathan Papelbon sometime in 2009. If Gedman had just moved his ass in game 6 of the 1986 WS, we'd have been able to celebrate 18 years earlier and Buckner would not have been a goat forever.
